The Skills Passport
Background:
Over the last few years there has been a paradigm shift in terms of corporate attitudes to traditional management &/or executive training &/or development. Whilst management education remains important, there has been a gradual recognition by senior management that management skills are equally, & in some cases even more significant to corporate performance & bottom-line results. We observed this paradigm shift in 2004 and set out to pilot the Skills Passport programme and objectives on two I.T. companies. (One medium & one small). The results were so successful & performance so improved that within a short period of time the medium sized European Company was taken over by a large
In order to test the material, Management Psychologist & best-selling author John Evan-Jones Ph.D decided to write a series of 10 books over 3 years concentrating on 10 major management & development skills. This series was entitled Cand.Succes and, not only was the first time that this had been attempted by the same author in such a narrow time-span, but also turned out to be the best-selling series of books in Danish publishing history & remain so to date. At one point, 4 of the Cand.Succes books were in the Top 10 in the same week. Only recently, one of the books entitled "Hot Teams" re-entered the prestigious Børsen book Top 10. The skills contained in these books are the basis of the Skills passport initiative. They are:
1. Personal Development – Vær din egen Coach.
2. Learning Skills – Tænk og Lær som en Vinder.
3.
4. Leadership Skills – Er du en Leder?
5. The Psychology of Sales – Luk Dit Salg.
6. Stress Management – Sandheden
7. The Psychology of Negotiation – Find din Forhandlingsstil.
8. The Psychology of Marketing – Ultimativ Markedsføring.
9. Managing Conflict in the workplace – Konfliktens Kunst.
10.The Success Paradigm – De 12 Universelle Love.
The Skills Passport Programme:
Utilising, an accelerated learning approach, (which assists our clients by reducing down-time), the Programme runs over 12 months with one teaching 4 hour module per month covering the relevant module. Circa 2 weeks after each module, the participants receive a short test designed to evaluate the participant´s grasp of the subject matter. This test must be e-mailed back to the relevant lecturer at least 7 days before the start of the next module. In order to pass each module, each participant will be required to score a pass rate of 70% or above. On the basis of each test, the participant´s will be awarded a pass grade of either A, B or C as follows:
A – Grade – 90 – 100%
B – Grade – 80 – 89%
C – Grade – 70 – 79%
In the event that any participant fails to achieve a pass mark of 70%, then they will be given 72 hours to re-sit the test or else attend the same module once again at additional cost.
Once they have passed each module, their Skills Passport, (which will be issued at the commencement of the programme), will be signed & stamped by the relevant lecturer confirming the same.
Certification & Validation:
For the last 15 years Evan-Jones has gained a reputation for providing high-level, and practical management & development training with a proven return on investment for their corporate clients. We developed a highly unique "Pracademic" (A successful & unique fusion of academic and practical), approach many years ago , & as a result our success ratio has constantly been applauded by both our corporate clients and academic institutions alike. In fact, we have received many requests from academic institutions from around the World to use our teaching material.
We use the International equivalency points system of 360 points in order for participants to obtain graduation. We recognise that not all participants will feel the need to take all 10 modules, however as there is a "red-line" & connection between each module, they must take at least 8 modules in order to pass the final examination & obtain graduation.
Each successfully completed module is merited at 45 points. Therefore successful completion of at least 8 modules ensures graduation. Participants who gain more that 400 points obtain graduation with honours. All successful participants will receive a framed certification confirming the same.
Enrollment:
Prior to enrollment, each participant will be asked to complete an Evan-Jones DISA Behavioural System Profile in order for their lecturers to initiate the accelerated learning approach. Each participant will be given a full explanation of their profile, which in our experience, they find highly useful, both in their personal life as well as their business life.
Study Time:
We estimate that the total study time required for the year´s programme is between 50 – 60 hours, including monthly 4 hour lectures. This is a drastic reduction of the time required on many other management or developmental programmes.
Be Your Own Manager:
It has been a widely held myth, that for many years management or excutive training was only for people holding management or executive positions. Nothing could be further from the truth, as in fact, as comprehensive research has shown, time & time again, all productive people in an organisation (irrespective of their official title), have to become their "Own Manager".
Who should attend this programme?
Virtually anyone in the organisation that management think could benefit from a skills boost, update or education. We recognise, that in many cases, senior management will have already completed an executive education, (MBA etc), at a renowned business school or intend to pursue this option. Of course this is an expensive resource option, both in terms of investment and time. This programme should be of particular interest to younger, emerging or middle management who are concerned with doing a better job as opposed to gaining a better job. (The latter option seems to be better served by high profile business schools...).
Investment:
The fee for each module per participant is Kr.4,995 + moms. This fee includes all materials, books, DISA Behavioral profile, books, final graduation certification & examinations. Each module will be invoiced monthly.
Class Sizes:
Each class will be restricted to 8 persons to ensure maximum teaching impact. In certain instances, companies who wish to enroll more than 8 persons per programme will be accommodated on a case by case basis.
Lecturers:
The entire programme will be supervised by John Evan-Jones Ph.D who will lecture those participants who feel it is in their best interests to receive tuition in English, although all teaching materials will remain in Danish. Two Senior Lecturers Henrik Mathiasen & Søren Buhl, both Evan-Jones Grad-u8´s and with substantial & successful corporate experience, will tutor the majority of participants.
Launch Date:
Pre-booking can commence now, but the launch date of this programme will be August 2009.
